Sand Sculpting EventFor over 20 years, the Friends' havs sponsored an amateur sand sculpting event, held at the mouth of the Outlet River on the Outlet Beach at Sandbanks Park.
July 2023 marked the second year that we were fortunate to have master sand sculpor Rod Watson volunteer to help contestants with their creations.
We expanded the event to add a special tutorial session for budding artists on Tuesday, which was well attended. Who knew there were so many secrets to making a lasting sculpture?
First prize was our coveted "Sandy" Trophy, with the runner-up team receiving a generously donated Create-a-Castle with all the tools needed for scultping in sand or snow.
The winning sculpture was "The Alligator.' and second prixe was awarded to the "Witch of the Waves" team. Great work from everyone!
This year we also had a pop-up version of our Friends of Sandbanks Discovery Store that offered our always popular T-shirts and hoodies, as well as other signature items from our store inventory.
(Our Discovery Store is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day at the West Lake Campground Office. Stop by and see our full selection of Sandbanks clothing and souvenirs!)
